Learn fun and stylish new ways to style your hair for every day occasions or for your next hot date!

These styling tips were taken directly from The Small Things blog, she offers a lot more tips on everything about product and hair tutorials so check out her website!

This is one of my favorite ways to style my hair, especially when it’s styled curly to begin with.
All you need is a few good bobby pins and hairspray!

1. If your hair doesn’t have any product in it, go ahead and spray a little bit a hairspray all over so it has some “grab.”

2. You can tease at the crown for a little extra lift (see this video for teasing)

3. Begin by sectioning off a small section at the back crown of your head and secure with two bobby pins running parallel.

4. Loosely grab a section on one side of your head and pull it back and over the bobby pins in the center. Essentially, you are covering those first pins so you don’t see a mess of bobby pins it the back.

5. Do the same on the opposite side and cross over the section you just did.
Secure with a pin or two and your done with the half-up part. You can leave it just like this!

6. If you want to continue into an updo, swirl your hair in a circle, hold in place with one hand, and begin adding pins to the circle to hold it in place.

(see those pins in there? If you stick them in perpendicular to your head you won’t see too much of them!)

And there you have it! Perfect simple updo that anyone can do! It helps to have hair approximately shoulder length or longer for the updo part, but anyone with shorter hair can always do the half up!

DIY SPA Citrus Salt Body Scrub

I went to the Dead Sea a few years ago and it was a fun experience. As I bobbed in the sea, I reached down and touched the bottom of the sea and when I brought my hands to the surface, I saw that the entire bottom of the ocean was salt crystals.

I immediately started rubbing the salt all over my body, and when I got out, I felt amazing.

Here is a fun recipe I found today to bring a bit of the Dead Sea to your house. Go ahead, pamper yourself!
I have not tried this recipe yet, so when you do, let me know what you think!

P.S. If you are going to substitute an oil, I recommend olive oil or coconut oil (never vegetable oil it is not good for you).

So I have a funny story…

I started coloring my hair in June of 2011 because I thought my hair color was really looking dull… and I found a GRAY hair.

I promised myself that when I started turning gray, I would also start coloring my hair.

Since I am too cheap to pay for a salon coloring, I use the box dyes. After awhile I realized that I needed to do something to help my hair get stronger and add nutrients back to it to repair the damage from the hair dye.

I know that eating a lot of protein and good oils (like olive , flaxseed, and coconut oils) are good for my body and hair, so I got an idea.

I decide to make a homemade hair mask treatment. I used one egg and olive oil. I saturated my hair, let it sit for an hour, then I washed it out.

Afterward, my hair was shiny, full, thick, and GORGEOUS!

The problem? Well, it smelled like raw egg! It was awful.

A week later I tried the mixture again, but this time I added vanilla and cinnamon (to try to mask the smell of egg. Everything was going great until I curled my hair… again it smelled like raw egg.

My boyfriend thought I was trying to torture him, poor guy. I wasn’t, I just wanted my hair to look amazing for our date night. Although my hair smelled, yet again, we ended up having a great night.

Every guy I told about my hair mishap, thought I was crazy… After all, I had never heard of anyone else trying something like this. So when I came across this article today, I just had to share it with you all!

All that to say, if you try #12, don’t leave it on for 1 hour like it did.

These 15 beauty recipes came straight from Inspiring Pretty.

1.) Brown Sugar and Honey Facial Scrub
This is probably my favorite one. Brown sugar exfoliates the skin ridding the pores of all dirt, oil and dead skin cells causing blemishes. Honey is naturally antibacterial, so as the brown sugar scrubs away the things clogging pores, the honey cleans out the sources of the buildup to prevent future breakouts.

2.) Coffee Grounds in Conditioner
This one is really simple. Instead of throwing old coffee grounds away, toss them into your conditioner to make your hair extra shiny. That’s all it takes!

3.) Replace Conditioner with Vinegar
To get rid of the usual problems with hair: build up, dullness and just lackluster, replace your conditioner with vinegar 1-4 times a month, depending on your hair type. Just use it as you need it. And, don’t worry about buying the best stuff for the best results, common white vinegar will do the trick as well as any other vinegar.

4.) Olive Oil as Hair Moisturizer
It’s easy to see how oil can moisturize your hair. It’s simple to use as well. Simply cover your hair in olive oil and leave it in for 30-45 minutes. You can also wrap it in plastic wrap to keep it from dripping. Some also believe it enhances the effect.

5.) Lemon and Egg Facial
Have red splotchiness on your face? Soothe both symptoms away easily by mixing together one egg yolk and the juice of one lemon into a paste. Cover your face with it and leave it on overnight. If this seems like too much work, leave it on your face for an hour. You might not get the optimal results with this amount of time, but you will see a difference.

6.) Replace Conditioner with Baking Soda
Want to be more like a guy and only use one thing to clean your hair? Then just add baking soda to your shampoo. It will remove build up and make hair shinier. And to make it even better, you can use it everyday.

7.) Degrease Oily Hair With Lemons and Aloe
Mix together 1 tablespoon of lemon juice and 1/2 teaspoon aloe vera. Mix the mixture in with a normal serving of shampoo. It will get rid of your oiliness in your hair with one shower.

8.) Smooth Fizzy Hair With Honey
Add a tablespoon of honey to a liter of water. After shampooing, rinse your hair with this concoction to tame your frizz.

9.) Replace Face Wash With Skim Milk Powder
Switching face wash out with skim milk powder can make your face much softer and give you a smoother complexion. It’s also very gentle, so even the most sensitive can use it.

10.) Moisturize Skin With Honey and Olive Oil
Honey holds moisture extremely well and olive oil hydrates well, too. Mix equal parts of olive oil and honey (and add a dash of lemon juice if you’d like) to create a pasty lotion. Rub it onto the dry skin and let it sit for 10-20 minutes. Your skin will be hydrated for plenty of time to come afterwards.

11.) Soften Skin With Oatmeal
There are many concoctions and mask recipes that involve oatmeal, but you can use oatmeal by itself to help your skin. Ground up about 1 cup of oatmeal using a blender or coffee grinder, and add it to bath water to soften skin to baby-like quality.

12.) Treat Choline-Damaged Hair
Mix together 1 egg, 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 1/4 cup of a peeled cucumber. Cover you hair with the mixture and leave it on for 10-20 minutes. You’ll see your hair return to normal almost immediately.

13.) Tone and Rebuild Skin With Avocados and Carrots
This recipe can work wonders. Combine 1 avocado, 1 cooked carrot, 1/2 cup heavy cream, 1 egg and 3 tablespoons of honey. Leave on for 10-20 minutes and then rinse. These ingredients add a multitude of vitamins, antioxidants and calcium to rebuild natural collagen, tone skin and remove age spots. There is plenty to read about the benefits of each of these ingredients, but all you need to know is that each natural element does more than any store-bought item can.

14.) Lemons or Oranges for Fine Hair Hairspray
Use Lemons for dry hair and oranges for a stronger hold. Chop up the entire piece of fruit in a bowl as to not lose any juice. Boil the fruit with 2 cups of water until soupy or to when the liquid has been significantly reduced. Strain through a cloth and pour into a spray bottle for use. The citrus will hold the hair and not damage it due to the fact that there is no alcohol.

15.) Apple Cider Vinegar for Cleanser and Toner
This eliminates dead skin cells easily, so you can use in lieu of expensive toner. That’s all there is to it!

Ever wish you could pamper yourself and get the awesome facials and spa treatments you see movie stars endorse? Yeah, me too. I just can’t justify spending upwards of $150 for a facial treatment.

Don’t get me wrong, I love to pamper myself, but I love it even more when it doesn’t cost me very much money.

Give yourself a Microdermabrasion facial treatment for about 20 cents with this recipe.

I tried this treatment and it felt great. It may not be suitable for all skin types, try a small test area first. slight tingling will occur.

I recommend doing this for the face, neck, and chest areas; I also suggest doing this prior to getting in the shower.

Rinse thoroughly and follow with a toner and moisturizer.

‘Family Day’ the Old Fashioned Way

One of the best things a family can do together is play together. If you haven’t done this in awhile, or if you have never done this, it might be awkward at first.

Some of your family members might even temporarily HATE you for making them spend time together, but they desperately need that time with you.

Today’s family is so busy running from one soccer practice to the next that they hardly spend any quality time together. And since the average 9-year-old has a cell phone, although your family may all be in the same room at the same time, you might not be experiencing quality communication and bonding.

My suggestion, turn off all of the phone, computers, etc. and get outside and enjoy the fact that we live in San Diego.

My challenge to you is this:

Today, spend a couple hours with your family outside doing something that doesn’t cost anything (aside from gas money to get there).

Drive to a beach and look for sea shells, go for a walk, ride your bikes and scooters, throw a ball, go for an adventure, a night hike, play a game of Wiffle baseball at a park, or street tennis.

If you haven’t been active like this, you will all be a little tired and hungry, so to avoid fights breaking out in the afternoon, make sure everyone has had enough to eat and a nap if needed.

Start building in “old fashioned” play time with your kids, talk to them, encourage them, and you will see something really great happen in your family and even in you.

Secretly Healthy Spinach Dip for Parties

Everyone has someone in their family who doesn’t like to eat anything they think is “healthy.” That’s why I have to be super creative with my recipes, and secretive when I use cottage cheese.

Just a general trick, substituting cottage cheese for sour cream reduces that fat and adds a ton of protein to a meal. Just be sure to first blend the cottage cheese and no one will be able to tell the difference.

Lindsey’s Spinach Dip Recipe
Ingredients needed:

1 10 oz container of frozen chopped spinach – defrost and squeeze out all the juice

1-2 5 oz cans of sliced water chestnuts – dice into small pieces

1 8 oz container of 1% cottage cheese – blend with a handheld blender or in a traditional blender until smooth and creamy

1 packet ranch dressing
After completing the above tasks, mix well, eat, and enjoy! No baking or cooking needed.

Prep/cook time: 7 min.

I usually serve this with crackers but some prefer it with bread, served in a bread bowl. If you want to be super healthy, serve with fresh cut cucumbers, peppers, and carrots.

Nutritional information for the entire mix: (not including the crackers)

Protein: 80 g

Carbs: 71g

Fat: 6g

Most guys don’t really understand why Valentine’s Day is such a big deal to women, which is fine, unless you like the woman you are with…

Consider these fun and creative gift ideas as an alternate to the usual card and chocolate routine.

Women tend to thrive off of romantic gestures and I am going to help you figure out how to make a lasting impression with your Valentine’s Day gift this year.

First let me clarify what is considered “romantic.” When a guy is thoughtful, kind, sensitive, and loving towards the woman he loves, that is romantic.

For example, when he makes sure to walk on the part of the sidewalk that is closest to the street. When he opens her car door, or remembers to ask about deadlines and projects she mentioned she was working on, etc.

A Valentine’s Day date naturally raises the expectation, but take my advice and your relationship will be better for it.

Regardless of what you get her, be sure to personalize your gift and be creative.

#1 Jewelry

If you plan to get your girlfriend/wife jewelry, add a personal touch to it by engraving her nick-name or an endearing phrase into the jewelry.

I don’t recommend buying jewelry unless the relationship has been going for awhile; giving jewelry too soon can send mix messages to a woman.

#2 Make her a gift bag

Does she like to pamper herself? Get a nice looking basket/bag and fill it with bath salts, lotions, nail polish, and anything else you have noticed that she really loves to do to spoil herself. You could even through in a gift certificate to a day spa for a massage.

Does she love to cook? Buy her a new cookbook, hot pads, aprons and a few fun dessert mixes. (Crate & Barrel or Williams-Sonoma have a lot of options for something like this). Be careful with this one, don’t buy her things that YOU want her to cook for you…

#3 Write her a poem and make her a CD

Women love to know what men are thinking and WHY he likes her. Write a short poem or paragraph telling your woman what she means to you and put together a few various kinds of candy (in a gift box) that mirror your writings.

For example, if you write, “I love how you make me laugh,” then include Laffy Taffy in the gift package and tape a note on it that says, “Thanks for always making me laugh.”

Here is a list of a few various kinds of candy to help get you started.

Another thing to add to this gift is a personalized CD (that you make for her) comprised of songs that she loves and songs that remind you of her.

Bonus Idea:

The majority of women LOVE flowers, so be sure to buy her some in addition to the gift you pick. But instead of just showing up with the flowers when you pick her up for your date, send them to her in the morning with a sweet note letting her know that you are excited to see her later.

If you especially want to impress her, leave them on her door-step (so she sees them before she goes to work) or have them delivered to her office.

Dates don’t have to be elaborate or expensive in order to make a positive impression on a woman, but they do have to be creative and personal. In this article I will give you three “Rainy Day Date” ideas around San Diego so you can plan a romantic date with your sweetie the next time it rains.

#1 Go to a playhouse

Women like to dress up and feel beautiful, they also like to be warm too. So when planning your date (either for an indoor or outdoor playhouse) make sure to prepare your date for the weather. You don’t want her to be so cold that all she can think about is going home and putting on her fleece pj’s. While at the playhouse, take the time to celebrate the fact that you don’t have to come up with an engaging conversation. Sit back and enjoy the show.
